‘Mahama is pampering cocaine activities’ – NPP’s Henry Nana Boakye Henry Nana Boakye (L) says President Mahama (R) should deal with officials aiding drug activities The 2nd National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has accused President John Dramani Mahama of failing to tackle cocaine and other drug-related activities in Ghana. According to him, the repeated drug seizures linked to Ghana show that the country is facing a serious problem that threatens its security and damages its image. 40kg Cocaine Bust in Beirut: NACOC hunts accomplices in Ghana “The recurring interception of cocaine and other narcotic substances originating from Ghana is an ominous threat to our national security and a huge dent on the image and integrity of our Country,” he wrote on Facebook on Monday, November 2, 2026. To show the scale of the problem, Nana Boakye cited the number of drug seizures recorded between March 2025 and October 2026. He said Ghana had recorded 14 major cocaine and drug seizures during the period, adding that the estimated street value of cocaine seized abroad was between US$1.3 billion and US$1.7 billion. He also stated that seven of the seizures took place in Ghana, involving about 3.6 tonnes of cocaine, while five seizures abroad accounted for about 14 tonnes. Among the cases he cited was the seizure of nearly 4,500 kilogrammes of cocaine hidden in a wood shipment from Ghana at the port of Amsterdam in June 2025. He also mentioned the seizure of 2,829 kilogrammes concealed in cassava flour shipped from Tema to Antwerp in November 2025, followed by another 1,158 kilogrammes at the same port in December 2025. In September 2026, French authorities seized about 3.9 tonnes of cocaine from a container declared as plastic waste at Dunkirk. The latest case he mentioned was the arrest of a Syrian national in Beirut on October 31, 2026, with 46.7 kilogrammes of cocaine after travelling from Ghana. Nana Boakye said the problem was not limited to cocaine, citing the seizure of 320 kilogrammes of illicit drugs hidden in charcoal shipped from Ghana to Australia in April 2026. He also mentioned the arrest of a South African man with heroin at OR Tambo Airport in Johannesburg after arriving from Accra in September 2026. He criticised the Mahama administration for failing to hold officials in the relevant security and drug control institutions accountable for the repeated cases. “Even more shocking than the busts is the fact that President Mahama and the NDC government have, to date, not held a single appointee in all the relevant preventive institutions accountable,” he said. He further accused the government of allowing Ghana to gain a reputation as a “COCAINE COAST”. Over 46kg Beirut Cocaine Bust: What we know so far “President Mahama is clearly pampering activities related to cocaine and other illicit drugs,” Nana Boakye added.
