'We don’t hate Ablakwa; we demand accountability' - NPP youth organiser Abanga Fuseini Yakubu is National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Abanga Fuseini Yakubu, has demanded the immediate dismissal of Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa over questions surrounding the expenditure on the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa. He is also calling for investigations by the Attorney-General and the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) into the evacuation exercise, insisting that the minister must account for the funds spent. Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Friday, October 30, 2026, ahead of the planned demonstration on 3 November, Yakubu said discrepancies in the reported number of evacuees and the cost of chartering flights raised questions that required documentary evidence. He questioned the government’s claim that 1,964 Ghanaians were evacuated from South Africa, arguing that the three chartered flights reportedly used could have transported about 900 people. He challenged the Foreign Affairs Ministry to produce passenger manifests and other supporting documents to establish how the remaining evacuees were transported. Yakubu also questioned the reported cost of chartering the flights, saying information obtained by the Minority from aviation sources suggested that each flight should have cost no more than $300,000. He contrasted this with the reported $750,000 cost of one chartered flight, arguing that the three flights should have cost a maximum of $900,000 rather than the reported total of $2.25 million. The NPP youth organiser further demanded receipts and supporting documents for accommodation, meals and other expenses incurred during the evacuation. He said the minister should publish the original invoices, contracts and proof of payment for each chartered flight, as well as the names of intermediaries involved in the arrangements. “We are not in to settle scores with anybody. We don’t hate Okudzeto Ablakwa. No, but all we are demanding from him is accountability,” he said. Yakubu also called for the publication of the full passenger manifest and beneficiary list to verify the number of Ghanaians evacuated from South Africa. He further demanded an independent audit by a reputable audit firm, with its findings made public. Beyond the evacuation expenditure, he called for the publication of records relating to diplomatic and service passports issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including their recipients and the officials who approved them. He warned that the improper issuance or circulation of diplomatic passports could undermine Ghana’s international reputation and create difficulties for Ghanaian travellers. Yakubu said the November 3 demonstration would begin at a convergence point opposite Accra Mall before proceeding to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ending at Jubilee House, where the protesters intend to present a petition to President John Dramani Mahama. He explained that the petition would formally communicate the concerns raised by the Minority in Parliament and the NPP youth to the President. According to him, the protesters want the President to examine the allegations and take appropriate action if wrongdoing is established. Asked why the NPP was demanding the minister’s dismissal before investigations had been completed, Yakubu argued that keeping him in office could create opportunities for the manipulation of information relevant to the investigations. He maintained that the demand for his removal was intended to ensure an independent examination of the issues raised. Yakubu said the demonstration was not intended to settle political scores but to press for transparency, accountability and the proper use of public funds.
