NPP reaffirms confidence in Afenyo-Markin as Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin is the Minority Leader The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has reaffirmed its confidence in Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin, declaring that he will continue to lead the party’s Minority Caucus in Parliament. The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, said the NPP leadership remained satisfied with Afenyo-Markin’s performance and had no plans to replace him. He made this known during a press briefing at the NPP headquarters on October 29, 2026, amid speculation that the party was considering changes to its parliamentary leadership. According to Kodua, the party’s elected officers were overwhelmingly satisfied with the work of Afenyo-Markin and his team and would continue to support them in carrying out their parliamentary responsibilities. NPP responds to alleged plot to remove Afenyo-Markin as Minority Leader “The leadership of our party, especially we the elected officers, are very happy. We are overwhelmingly satisfied with the work being done by the leadership in Parliament led by Osahen Afenyo-Markin, and we shall continue to give them that support,” he said. He further stressed that the NPP had neither held a meeting nor considered any proposal to reorganise its parliamentary leadership, describing reports of an impending change as baseless. Kodua also accused those behind the reports of attempting to create confusion and disaffection within the Minority Caucus, urging party members to disregard the speculation. The clarification comes amid claims circulating in political circles that the NPP was considering a shake-up of its parliamentary leadership as part of preparations for the 2028 general elections.
