A suspected armed robber has been shot dead following a gun battle between a group of suspected criminals and the Accra Regional Police Command near Agbogbloshie.

A suspected armed robber has been shot dead following a gun battle between a group of suspected criminals and the Accra Regional Police Command near Agbogbloshie.
The police also seized an AK-47 rifle and 186 rounds of ammunition after the encounter at Galoway on Thursday, September 10.
The incident followed intelligence received by the police that four armed men travelling on two motorbikes were heading towards a Shell filling station at Galoway, allegedly to carry out a robbery.
Acting on the information, personnel from the Accra Regional Police Intelligence and Professional Standards Directorate, supported by the Operational Unit, moved to intercept the suspects. The police team encountered the four men at the Galoway Police Barrier, where a gunfight broke out.
During the exchange of gunfire, one of the suspects was hit and injured, while the other three managed to escape after abandoning the two motorbikes.

A search of the injured suspect led to the recovery of an AK-47 assault rifle bearing serial number 79-HF-3014. The weapon was fitted with a double magazine containing 136 rounds of ammunition. Police also found an additional 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition on him.
The suspect was subsequently transported to the Police Hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead upon arrival. His remains have since been deposited at the hospital's mortuary pending identification and an autopsy.
The two abandoned motorbikes, identified as a Royal and an Apsonic, have also been taken into police custody. The firearms, ammunition and motorbikes are being kept as exhibits as investigations continue.
The Accra Regional Police Command said it has intensified efforts to identify and apprehend the three suspects who escaped. Police are also working to establish the circumstances surrounding the suspected robbery and the identities of those involved.
The Command has reiterated its commitment to intelligence-led operations aimed at preventing armed robbery and other violent crimes in the region.
