GPL GH¢1m package comes from company, not government – GFA clarifies
Before the start of the season, the GFA announced a GH¢1 million package to cushion GPL clubs in running their affairs and boost their finances. Reports suggested that the government provided the funds to support club activities and improve the fortunes of the struggling league. ‘Build new stadia!’ – Ghanaians pressure Mahama over ‘weak’ sports facilities However, the GFA spokesperson has debunked the claims, saying the package was bankrolled by the company in charge of running the league. He stressed that the funds were mobilised by the said company and distributed to the clubs to aid their operations, adding that claims of government support are untrue. “There is a company that is running the Premier League, called the Ghana Premier League Company Limited, so they supervise everything. When we go to a meeting and make a decision, they have to go and implement it, and we support. “The company is in Accra. If the FA pays the GH¢1 million, they give the cheque to us, then we pay the clubs. No [not the government or Sports Ministry]; it is the company. During the announcement, we made it clear that a company has been formed to take charge of the league, and Adesa handles production,” Asante Twum said in an interview with Asempa FM. “Build New Stadia!” – Ghanaians Pressure Mahama Over ‘Weak’ Sports Facilities Source: GhanaWeb (https://www.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/SportsArchive/GPL-GH-1m-package-comes-from-company-not-government-GFA-clarifies-2052595)
