Wontumi seriously sick in prison, NPP leadership afraid to disclose his condition – Abronye Former Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has alleged that the party's former Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, is unwell in prison but that the party's leadership is reluctant to disclose his health condition to supporters. According to Abronye, the party's leadership is deliberately withholding information about Chairman Wontumi's alleged ill health to prevent supporters from becoming worried about his condition. Speaking on his Ohia TV show, excerpts of which have been shared on social media, Abronye claimed that Chairman Wontumi was suffering in prison because of what he described as fabricated allegations against him. "I am telling you today that Chairman Wontumi is sick. If anybody tells you that he is fine, that is a lie. NPP followers and supporters, if any of the party's leaders tells you that he is well, it is a lie. Chairman Wontumi is sick. "They don't want to say it because supporters will get worried, so don't let anybody lie to you. Even if the prison authorities say he is fine, it is a lie. He is suffering because of lies that were fabricated against him," he stated. Chairman Wontumi has been in custody at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison since his conviction in July in a case involving Akonta Mining Company Limited. Unemployed man jailed 10 years for attempted robbery An Accra High Court sentenced him to 20 years’ imprisonment after finding him guilty of offences related to mining activities on the company’s concession at Samreboi in the Western Region. The sentences on the two counts are to run concurrently. Wontumi has since appealed the conviction and sentence. His lawyers filed the appeal at the Court of Appeal on July 28, 2026, challenging the High Court’s decision. “Let nobody lie to you that Chairman Wontumi is in good health and shape.
