POLICE HUNT FOR SUSPECTS AFTER SHOOTING AT MINING SITE AT BEHENASE

The Nkawkaw Divisional Police Command has launched a manhunt for suspects following a violent clash at a mining site at Behenase near Awiregya in the Kwahu West Municipality. Two people sustained gunshot wounds during the confrontation between rival groups at the illegal mining site and are currently receiving treatment at the Holy Family Hospital in Nkawkaw. Another victim, who reportedly suffered severe injuries to the genital area, is also receiving medical attention. The cause of the clash remains unclear, but the incident has heightened concerns about violence and insecurity associated with illegal mining activities in the area. Addressing the media, the Assembly Member for the Awiregya Electoral Area, Sampson Tenkoang, has called on National Security and other law enforcement agencies to intensify operations to rid the area of illegal miners. “I would really be glad if the government takes steps to ensure these illegal mining activities cease. This is not the first time such an incident has happened,” he said. Meanwhile, the family of one of the victims is demanding justice. Abena Grace, a relative of one of the victims, expressed concern over the increasing violence linked to illegal mining and urged investigators to identify and prosecute those behind the attack.
