NPP CHAIRMANSHIP RACE: JOHN BOADU LEADS WITH 46.5% IN NEW SURVEY

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, is leading the party’s National Chairman race, according to a new survey by Professor Smart Sarpong of Kumasi Technical University in collaboration with Feedback Africa. The Political Environment Assessment Survey 2026, released on September 29, surveyed 9,882 respondents, comprising 5,276 NPP delegates and 4,606 stakeholders across 156 constituencies in 14 regions. The fieldwork was conducted between September 10 and 28, 2026. Mr Boadu recorded 46.5% support among all respondents in the National Chairman contest. He was followed by former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, who polled 24.8%. The survey forms part of an assessment of the political environment ahead of the NPP’s national elections. Former National Chairman Paul Afoko polled 9.1%, while Sammy Crabbe recorded 5.5%. About 14.1% did not disclose their preference. Among delegates, Mr Boadu also recorded the highest percentage, with 47.9% among constituency officers, 41.5% among electoral area coordinators and 46.8% among polling station executives. Mr Agyarko’s support across the three delegate categories ranged from 22.5% to 26.2%. The survey also found incumbent General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong leading the General Secretary contest, with 56.0% among all respondents. Eugene Boakye Antwi followed with 14.4%, while Sylvester Tetteh recorded 13.8%. Charles Dwamena polled 5.0%, with 10.8% declining to disclose their preference. Among delegates, Mr Kodua recorded 60.0% among constituency officers, 47.3% among polling station executives, and 39.3% among electoral area coordinators. The survey showed a more dispersed distribution among electoral area coordinators, with Eugene Boakye Antwi recording 19.2%, while 20.2% did not disclose their preference. In the National Vice Chairman contest, lawyer Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, recorded 37.6% among all respondents and 41.1% among delegates. Former Information Minister Mustapha Abdul-Hamid followed with 14.5% among all respondents, while Kojo Fosu Boadu recorded 10.9% and former MP Nana Akomea 9.1%. Among delegates, Mr Abdul-Hamid recorded 14.6%, followed by Nana Akomea with 11.1% and Mr Fosu Boadu with 10.0%. About one in 10 respondents in both categories did not disclose a preference. The remaining candidates in the 14-person field each recorded less than 5%. The survey also assessed other national executive positions. Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover recorded 47.4% among all respondents in the National Organizer contest, while Mavis Hawa Koomson recorded 50.1% in the National Women’s Organizer race. Clement Opoku Gyamfi recorded the highest figure in the National Youth Organizer contest, while Awal Mohammed led the Nasara Coordinator race. The report described both contests as still open. No candidate recorded a clear lead in the National Treasurer contest. Professor Sarpong said respondents who did not disclose their preferences could influence the eventual outcome, particularly in contests where the differences between candidates are relatively narrow. The survey provides a snapshot of preferences among NPP delegates and stakeholders ahead of the party’s national executive elections, rather than a determination of the eventual winners.
