NAS CEO Inspects Progress of “Operation Restore Fleet”

Leading a team of top management staff, the CEO paid a working visit to the NAS Central Workshop at Korle-Bu to assess progress being made under the intensive engineering operation. The initiative forms part of a dedicated effort by NAS technicians and engineers who are working around the clock to reduce vehicle downtime, restore grounded ambulances, and clear the workshop of all unserviceable vehicles. During the inspection, Dr. Owusu expressed satisfaction with the progress of work and commended the commitment and dedication demonstrated by workshop personnel. He noted that the operation remains firmly on course and is already yielding positive results. The CEO observed that significant progress has been made in separating serviceable vehicles from unserviceable ones, a move expected to improve workshop efficiency, streamline maintenance processes, and enhance overall fleet management. He further highlighted the introduction of fleet management software, which is expected to strengthen monitoring, maintenance scheduling, and decision-making regarding the Service’s ambulance fleet, ultimately boosting operational readiness across the country. As part of efforts to safeguard assets and improve accountability, Dr. Owusu also disclosed that additional security measures are being implemented at the workshop, including the installation of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) systems. The current operations focus heavily on restoring ambulances that developed major mechanical faults after six years of intensive and continuous nationwide service. The primary objective is to service, repair, and return as many ambulances as possible to active duty while ensuring that beyond-economic-repair vehicles are properly identified and managed. Dr. Owusu also acknowledged the important role of the media in promoting accountability and keeping public institutions responsive. He, however, stressed the need for accurate and balanced reportage that reflects the realities of emergency medical service delivery, including the demanding conditions under which NAS personnel operate and the significant volume of emergency cases attended to daily across the country. The strategic intervention underscores the commitment of the National Ambulance Service to maintaining maximum operational readiness and strengthening timely emergency medical response for the people of Ghana.
