Prosecutors have also requested 10 years in prison for healthcare coordinator Nancy Forlini, five years for psychologist Carlos Díaz, and four years each for nurse Ricardo Almirón and his supervisor, Mariano Perroni. The prosecution is seeking to have all six defendants barred from practising their respective professions. The closing arguments follow a trial involving dozens of hearings and extensive witness testimony examining the circumstances surrounding Maradona’s death at the age of 60. Maradona died on November 25, 2020, while recovering from brain surgery at a rented house in Argentina. His death prompted an investigation into the medical care he received during his final days. The six defendants face charges of homicide with eventual intent, a legal concept involving the alleged acceptance of the risk that their actions or omissions could result in death. Prosecutors argue that the medical team failed to provide the standard of care required during Maradona’s recovery. The defendants have denied responsibility for his death. Meanwhile, prosecutors have reportedly requested the acquittal of the seventh defendant, physician Pedro Di Spagna.
