Let's preserve religious harmony and build a united Ghana for our children - Dr. Bawumia
Former Vice President and NPP Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has urged Ghanaians to preserve the country's religious harmony by embracing diversity. Speaking at the 2026 National Maulid in Accra to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), Dr. Bawumia said the significance of the celebration goes beyond birth to the celebration of mercy and guidance. He said, Prophet Muhammad lived peacefully with people of other faiths and Ghanaians must do same. "I wish to urge the Ummah (Muslims) to continue to embrace diversity and to continue to live peacefully with members of other faiths, as prescribed by the Prophet himself. He lived peacefully with all. For Ghana to continue to be the beacon of peace that it is, we need unity. Let us build a united Ghana for our children," he said. The former Vice President stressed that the Maulid should be a time for deep reflection on how Muslims are living the Sunnah (virtues) of the Prophet in their homes, workplaces and politics. "I urge all of us, especially the youth, to emulate this in our daily lives. In our hones, in our friendships, in our businesses, and in our public life, let us be patient and humble." The event, hosted by National Chief Imam Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, was attended by Muslims from all walks of life. Interior Minister, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak represented President John Mahama and read his speech on his behalf.
