Korle Bu: Gov’t begins land preparation for 400-bed Mother and Child Block

The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has announced that land preparation has begun for the construction of a new 400-bed Mother and Child Block at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. According to him, the project forms part of President John Dramani Mahama’s investment in major health infrastructure and will replace the hospital’s existing maternity unit. “President Mahama is back with investments in major, world-class health infrastructure,” he wrote in a Facebook post. The new facility is expected to provide specialised maternal and child healthcare, with dedicated Obstetrics and Gynaecology wards, labour and delivery suites, operating theatres and a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. It will also include a High Dependency Unit, Intensive Care Unit, IVF and Assisted Reproductive Technology Centre, antenatal and postnatal clinics, fertility and reproductive health services, and an Emergency Obstetric Care Unit. Other facilities will include diagnostic imaging, laboratory and blood bank services, a pharmacy and a Central Sterile Services Department, as well as physiotherapy, rehabilitation, breastfeeding and family planning units. Mr Kwakye Ofosu said the facility will also provide teaching, research and conference facilities, supporting both clinical services and medical training at Korle Bu.
