'It's a shame' - Miracles Aboagye tears into government over Deputy EC Chair appointment
Miracles Aboagye is a member of the New Patriotic Party
NPP Communications Director, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has taken a swipe at the government following the appointment of the Deputy Chairpersons of the Electoral Commission (EC).
In a discussion on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, monitored by GhanaWeb on October 12, 2026, Miracles Aboagye described the appointment of Emelia Afi Agenyo as a Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission as shameful.
According to Miracles Aboagye, the decision by the President Mahama-led government to appoint Emelia Afi Agenyo, whom he claimed was selected from the NDC's database, was a shameful act.
'Be fair to all political parties' - Mahama to new EC Deputy Chairpersons
“It's a shame. We have a government and a party that doesn't even see how embarrassing it is to simply go into the party's database and pick one of their political party operatives and appoint her as a Deputy Electoral Commissioner. It is a complete shame,” he said.
Miracles Aboagye further noted that Ghana has come a long way in building its democracy and should not allow independent institutions to be tainted by partisan politics.
“We have come very far as a country trying to build our democracy. And one of the things we know we don't do is to try and touch some of these independent bodies in such a very, very blatant manner.

“You know, this government went after our Chief Justice by illegally bullying her and removing her. Now they're going to the Electoral Commission as well,” he added.
Miracles Aboagye's comments come on the back of President John Dramani Mahama's appointment and swearing-in of Deputy Chairpersons of the Electoral Commission, Emelia Afi Agenyo and Dr Joseph Kwaku Asamoah, into office on October 12, 2026.
During the swearing-in ceremony, President Mahama reminded the two officials to remain impartial and ensure no political party receives preferential treatment.
