In an interview on Sompa FM, shared on X and sighted by GhanaWeb on October 6, 2026, Chairman Butey noted that his mandate was to oversee the successful conduct of the delegates’ conference and ensure that new leadership was elected. According to him, during the delegates’ conference, he did not initiate any amendment to make Dr Mahamudu Bawumia the leader instead of the chairman, insisting that he rejected the amendment. Full details of 14 constitutional amendments approved by NPP “As a leader at the time, I nullified the amendment, and they can take it wherever they want. “Even they had to make us aware because we don’t know if they had added something to the motion or not… Also, I didn’t bring any amendment during the delegate conference, so I don’t have any idea about it,” he said. Chairman Butey additionally noted that he had filed a motion at the court challenging the amendment that sought to make the party’s flagbearer its leader. “I don’t want to talk about the court date, but it’s in my car, and you can come home, and I would show it to you,” he added. Meanwhile, the NPP, before its National Delegates Conference in Kumasi, stated that it had approved 14 amendments to its constitution. The party subsequently amended Articles 10(3), 10(3)(2) and 10(4)(2) to provide for the presidential candidate to lead the campaign structure.
