GOVERNMENT TO ANNOUCE NEW COCOA PRODUCER PRICE TODAY

The government is set to announce a new cocoa producer price for the 2026/2027 season, setting the stage for a new pricing regime for cocoa farmers. The expected announcement comes amid efforts to secure financing for the new season and address liquidity challenges within the cocoa sector. Ahead of the announcement, the Ghana Cocoa Board has been engaging leading international cocoa trading companies in London as part of preparations for the 2026/2027 cocoa season. Discussions focused on the newly enacted Ghana Cocoa Board Act, 2026, the proposed cocoa sector financing framework, preparations for the new season, and plans for commercial paper and bond financing. The meeting also explored liquidity arrangements for the upcoming season, private-sector financing support for Licensed Buying Companies, and Ghana’s readiness to implement the European Union Deforestation Regulation. Earlier this year, the government maintained the producer price for the 2025/2026 light crop season despite a decline in international cocoa prices. The price remained at GH¢1,241.76 per 30-kilogramme load for Grade I and II cocoa beans and GH¢2,587 per 64-kilogramme gross bag. This translates into GH¢41,392 per tonne, equivalent to 16 bags of cocoa. The upcoming announcement is expected to determine the price farmers will receive for their cocoa beans in the new season, with implications for farmer incomes, cocoa purchasing arrangements and the financial sustainability of the sector.
