GHANA TVET SERVICE WARNS AGAINST UNAUTHORISED FEE COLLECTION

The Ghana TVET Service has taken notice of credible reports indicating the imposition of unauthorized fees on prospective students and parents by some Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions during the ongoing admissions process. In fulfillment of the government’s commitment to expanding equitable access to quality TVET under the Free TVET policy, the Service stated unequivocally that no student or parent is required to make any payment not expressly approved as part of the official admission process. “The imposition of charges under the guise of admission processing fees, or compulsory prospectus purchases is unacceptable and constitutes a clear violation of established directives,” TVET said. The Service views these developments with the utmost seriousness. Such practices undermine the integrity of the Free TVET policy and risk creating the false impression that access to technical education has been made expensive, contrary to the government’s policy direction. Accordingly, the Ghana TVET Service has commenced nationwide monitoring and compliance exercises through the deployment of Academic Calendar Monitoring Teams to all TVET institutions to assess admission processes and ensure strict adherence to approved guidelines. Any Head of Institution or staff found to be engaging in or facilitating the collection of unauthorized fees will face swift and severe disciplinary action in accordance with the relevant provisions governing the Service. Parents and guardians are advised to refrain from making any unapproved payments and are encouraged to report such incidents to the Ghana TVET Service through the appropriate channels.
