Akugri Gadafi Avokbil, a former Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Nurses and Midwives Trainees Association (GNMTA) and current Operations Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Nurses Professional Forum (NDC Pro-Forum) in the Ashanti Region, has been elected Deputy Constituency Organiser of the NDC in the Obuasi East Constituency.
Avokbil, who contested unopposed after two other aspirants withdrew from the race, was declared the winner during the party's constituency executive elections held over the weekend.
In an earlier statement issued on August 26, 2026, ahead of the elections, Avokbil explained that his decision to contest the position was motivated by his commitment to the NDC and his desire to help consolidate the party's electoral gains.
He also cited calls from grassroots members who had encouraged him to take up a leadership role at the constituency level.
According to him, he undertook extensive consultations across the constituency and received overwhelming support and encouragement from party members.
He further disclosed that he had prayed and sought the guidance of Almighty Allah before deciding to contest the position.
Avokbil said his nearly decade-long experience in student leadership and youth activism had equipped him with the organisational skills and experience needed to serve effectively as Deputy Constituency Organiser.

He noted that with the NDC currently in government, the responsibilities of party organisers had become even more critical, particularly in strengthening the party's relationship with its grassroots supporters.
According to him, constituency organisers have a responsibility to explain government policies to party members, mobilise support for the NDC administration and contribute to efforts to retain political power beyond the 2028 general elections.
Avokbil pledged to serve as “the voice and servant of the grassroots,” stressing his commitment to organising, mobilising and defending the party's interests at the constituency level.
