BLACK STARS COACH SEARCH EXTENDED TO OCTOBER 15
The Ghana Football Association (GFA), in consultation with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the Black Stars Coach Search Committee, has extended the deadline for applications for the position of Black Stars Head Coach to October 15, 2026.

Search for New Black Stars Coach Extended as GFA Outlines Major Structural Overhaul
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially extended the application deadline for the vacant Black Stars head coaching position to allow for a broader pool of elite international candidates.
The decision, confirmed in an official statement released on Sunday, October 11, 2026, follows a preliminary review by the newly formed five-member Search Committee. Led by former GFA Vice-President Fred Pappoe, the committee advised that filling the role should not be treated as a quick recruitment exercise, but rather as a golden opportunity to redefine Ghana’s football identity and establish long-term high-performance standards.
The coaching hot seat became vacant on October 1, 2026, following the sudden resignation of Portuguese tactician Carlos Queiroz after a disappointing September international break.
A Thorough, Merit-Based Selection Process
Under the newly expanded timeline, the evaluation, interviewing, and shortlisting of candidates will run throughout October and November 2026. The committee emphasized that this deliberate approach is necessary to perform extensive background checks, consult with technical experts, and ensure the final candidate aligns with the cultural and strategic vision of Ghanaian football.
The ultimate goal is to look beyond impressive resumes on paper and find a leader capable of steering the national team into a successful new era.
Interim Technical Team Set for November Qualifiers
To avoid disrupting the team's immediate competitive responsibilities, the GFA announced that an Interim Technical Team will be appointed shortly.
This temporary technical unit will take full charge of the Black Stars during the upcoming November international window. They will be responsible for:
• Preparing and managing the squad for the November matches.
• Maintaining stability within the national team camp.
• Monitoring player performance both locally and abroad.
• Ensuring a seamless transition once a permanent head coach is officially named.
A Call for National Unity and Support
The GFA has strongly reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent, professional, and merit-based hiring process designed to build a foundation for sustained success on both continental and global stages.
Recognizing the Black Stars as a vital national symbol, the association urged football stakeholders, the media, former players, and the general public to support the ongoing selection process with patience and unity.
How to Apply
The GFA is actively inviting qualified football managers to apply. Interested tactical experts and coaches are required to submit their applications and detailed curriculum vitae (CV) directly via email to coaches.applications@ghanafa.org.
Aside from Chairman Fred Pappoe, the high-powered search committee features notable football figures including former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah, PFAG General Secretary Anthony Baffoe, legal expert Agbesi Dzakpasu, and high-performance specialist Faisal Chibsah.
