Bawumia demands release of remanded Techiman nurse

Former Vice President and NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed concern over the arrest and remand of Techiman-based nurse Salomey Bafoh Awiti.\n\nIn a social media statement, Dr Bawumia described the development as worrying and argued that citizens’ constitutional right to free expression must be protected.\n\nHe said he opposes politics based on insults and urged political actors to maintain decorum, but maintained that opposition to offensive speech should not come at the expense of fundamental rights.\n\nDr Bawumia called for the nurse’s release and cautioned against using state intelligence agencies to pursue citizens over comments directed at public officials.\n\nSource: GhanaWeb/GBC Ghana Online.
