Arkutu’s big NDC dream: One region, 34 constituencies, one powerful bloc
Former Ayawaso Central Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ebenezer Arkutu, has pledged to transform the party’s Greater Accra Regional Secretariat into a stronger, more accountable and results-driven political structure, declaring his ambition to build what he describes as the most powerful regional bloc in the party’s history.
Mr. Arkutu, who is contesting for the position of Greater Accra Regional Secretary, successfully cleared vetting and picked the fourth position on the ballot ahead of the party’s November 2026 regional executive elections.
Speaking after the vetting and balloting exercise, he said his campaign was driven by a commitment to strengthen the party’s administrative machinery, improve communication with grassroots members and position the Greater Accra NDC for the 2028 general elections.
“The reason why I'm contesting, for which I need the support of everybody, is the dream to work with the team to put the most powerful regional bloc in the history of NDC,” he declared.
Mr. Arkutu is seeking to combine his experience in constituency-level party leadership with his professional background in corporate management to improve coordination, accountability and service delivery within the regional administration.
He argued that political party administration must go beyond routine operations, insisting that effective leadership requires clearly defined structures, institutional reforms and a coordinated approach to addressing members’ concerns.
According to him, the Regional Secretary’s position requires both political experience and professional competence, particularly in engaging with the Presidency, Parliament, ministries, departments and agencies.
“As a former constituency chairman, I have that political experience and exposure. And also now, as a deputy manager, I can bring that corporate aspect on board so that we can serve the great NDC party,” he stated.
The former constituency chairman has outlined three key priorities for his campaign: access to party leadership, effective representation and equal opportunities for members across the region.
He said he would work to bridge the communication gap between the Regional Secretariat and grassroots members, stressing that party footsoldiers must be recognised as essential stakeholders in the NDC’s political organisation.
Mr. Arkutu maintained that the concerns and legitimate interests of grassroots supporters must be given adequate attention if the party is to strengthen its internal structures and maintain the commitment of its members.
He also challenged delegates to reject transactional politics in the upcoming regional executive elections, urging them to make their choices based on integrity, competence and the ability to deliver results.
“This election is about leadership. To that end, this election should not be transactional. It must be based on integrity. It must be based on people who can deliver so that we can consolidate power in 2028,” he stressed.
His campaign comes as the NDC prepares to elect regional executives who will help coordinate party activities, mobilise supporters and strengthen organisational structures ahead of the next general elections.
Mr. Arkutu believes his experience in grassroots mobilisation, constituency leadership and corporate management places him in a strong position to improve the administration of the Greater Accra Regional Secretariat.
He has pledged to work with regional executives, constituency officers and party members to establish an accessible, accountable and performance-oriented secretariat capable of responding to the needs of the party across all 34 constituencies in the region.
Calling for delegates’ support, he expressed confidence that his proposed reforms could be achieved through collective effort and effective leadership.
“I have the experience and capacity to put structures in place to deliver on these, on the back of your support—so that together we can build the NDC we want together,” he assured delegates.
If elected, Mr. Arkutu says his priority will be to build a regional administration that strengthens grassroots participation, improves institutional coordination and helps position the Greater Accra NDC to consolidate its political support ahead of the 2028 general elections.
