AFCON Qualifiers: 10 potential Black Stars players ruled out by injuries – Queiroz

Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has revealed that injuries have ruled 10 potential players out of consideration for Ghana’s upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. He said the players were unavailable when he finalised the squad, limiting his options ahead of the qualifiers. Addressing the press on Monday, September 21, Queiroz also said several players in the squad are yet to get enough playing time at club level and are still working towards full match fitness. He said their readiness and current form will therefore be key considerations in determining which players can be relied on for the qualifiers. “We have in our injury list 10 potential players for the national team, 10 players that were out of my options,” Queiroz said. He said the situation is particularly challenging because of the limited time available to prepare the team, with the Black Stars expected to play shortly after arriving for camp. “This is one competition, as you know, that we arrived Monday and Thursday we have a game, so there is no room for great decisions, there is no room to development, there is only room to deliver,” he said. Despite the setbacks, Queiroz said the technical team remains focused on addressing the gaps in the squad and maintaining confidence ahead of the qualifiers.
