Accra-Kumasi Highway contractor reports Adom Kyei-Duah over church obstruction

The contractor working on the Kumasi-Konongo Bypass has attributed persistent drainage challenges and the failure of a section of the road to access works and activities around the Second Chance Church, founded and led by Prophet Stephen Adom Kyei-Duah. The contractor made the disclosure when he briefed the Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, during an inspection of the project. According to the contractor, the affected section had completely failed, compelling the project team to excavate the area and undertake extensive filling works using boulders and crushed rock. He said nearly two metres of material had been added to raise the road but the drainage problem had persisted. “All the cross-drainages that we did here are all silted again because of the activities from this area,” the contractor said. The contractor said the situation was particularly concerning because the drainage infrastructure could become blocked again even after the road rehabilitation works were completed. He noted that the road had originally been about a metre lower but had since been raised by almost two metres as part of efforts to address the recurring failure. Despite the elevation, he said the drainage challenge remained unresolved. The contractor indicated that asphalt works on the affected section were expected to commence within a week to a week and a half, after which work would proceed to other sections of the bypass. He, however, cautioned that unless the drainage and access problems were addressed before the asphalt works, the road could suffer another failure. “If that problem is not solved, we might undermine the road again and create problems,” he warned. In response, Roads and Highways Minister Kwame Governs Agbodza directed that measures be taken to provide a more appropriate access arrangement around the church and address the drainage problem.
